WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AN INTERNSHIP OR APPLY FOR A JOB?

  • Student visa (highly recommended to apply for it in the country of origin, before coming to Spain).
  • TIE: Foreigner's Identity Card (to be obtained at a Foreigners' Office or at a Police Station once the visa has been obtained)*.
  • NUSS: Número Único de la Seguridad Social (to be applied for telematically** or at a Social Security Office, being necessary to provide the TIE or, if applicable, the receipt of the application. It is advisable to apply for the NUSS as soon as possible and not wait to be the candidate selected by a company since the delay in obtaining it -a maximum of 45 days- may discourage the incorporation).

* In the case of students coming from European Union countries, a Certificate of Registration as a European Union Citizen is required instead.

LEGAL FRAMEWORK ON EMPLOYABILITY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Curricular internships:

-Compulsory for obtaining the degree.
-Present in Bachelor's Degrees (4th, 3rd if international experience) and certain Official Master's Degrees.
-Foreigner's Identity Card (TIE)* is required.
-Unique Social Security Number (NUSS) required.

Extracurricular internships:

-Foreigner's Identity Card (TIE)* is required.
-Unique Social Security Number (NUSS) is required.
-If the internship equals or exceeds 20 hours per week, the company must apply to the Administration for an internship authorization (form EX-04; resolution time: 30 days).

Employment contract:

-For official qualifications
-Foreigner's Identity Card (TIE)* is required.
-Unique Social Security Number (NUSS) is required.
-Maximum 30 hours per week compatible with studies.
-Not necessary relation between the content of the position and the qualification 

* For students from European Union countries, a Certificate of Registration as an EU citizen is required instead.

Labor contract for obtaining professional practice (formerly internship labor contract):

-Prior application by the company to the Administration for authorization to carry out an internship (form EX-04; resolution time: 30 days).
-Requires not to have done more than 3 months of extracurricular internships.
-Minimum 6 months and maximum 12 months (9 months if 3 months of extracurricular internships have been completed).

Indefinite-term contract**:

-The company must apply to the Administration for the initial employee work permit (form EX-03; to be applied for 60 days before to 90 days after the expiration of the student visa; resolution time: 5-6 months).

Additional permits**:

-For official degrees, residence authorization for employment and entrepreneurship (form EX-01; to be requested by the student 60 days before to 90 days after the expiration of the student visa; resolution time: 20 days).

** Does not apply to students from EU countries.
