The meeting, which took place on July 23, analyzed the future of the world and Spanish economy in 2021 and its impact on companies in Malaga.

On Thursday July 23 was held 'Malaga on the move. The future of the global and Spanish economy in 2021 and its impact on companies in Malaga', organized by La Opinión de Málaga, Prensa Ibérica and Grupo Zeta and held at the Hotel Barceló in the capital of Malaga.

The meeting was sponsored by ESIC, Business & Marketing School, and Acosol, and included a presentation by Mario Weitz, professor at ESIC, expert in international economics and economic consultant to the World Bank and the European Commission, who analyzed the outlines of the global economy in 2021, the post-Covid year, and its impact on the Spanish and Malaga economies.

Professor Weitz is one of the world's leading experts on international economics . He has worked for the most important economic institutions worldwide: he has been deputy economist for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), chief economist for the OAS and advisor to several governments and international banks.

"In this crisis there are no obvious solutions, but we do know what we cannot do," said Weitz. The expert also indicated that, compared to other major crises, the economic effects of this crisis will be very limited. He also warned that the size of companies, the informal economy and the excessive dependence on tourism "are the great ills of the Spanish economy".

"We have to put the focus on digitalization, innovation, technology, training... without forgetting sectors such as tourism," the expert stressed during his speech.

The event was also attended by Carmen Sánchez Sierra, representative of the Territorial Delegation of Employment, Training, Self-Employment, and Economy, Knowledge, Business and University in Malaga. In addition, relevant companies and institutions from all over the province attended the event.
