PROGRAMME STRUCTURE and LEARNING METHODOLOGY 

The Master’s Degree in International Trade & Business begins with an Induction Week and the Integration Session, where participants will have the opportunity to meet their classmates and the Programme Director. These sessions are designed to help students familiarise themselves with the learning methodology and overall dynamics of the programme, setting the stage for a successful and engaging academic journey.

The programme is structured into five core subjects and a Final Project, which consists of an International Business Plan. These subjects are carefully designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge, critical awareness of complex and real-world scenarios, and the intellectual skills necessary for understanding and navigating the global business environment. In addition to theoretical concepts, the curriculum emphasises the development of practical, professional, and transferable skills, ensuring participants are well-equipped to thrive in international contexts.

Each subject includes multiple topics, with 2 to 5 topics per subject, and each topic comprises 2 to 8 sessions, allowing for a deep insight into relevant areas of study. This comprehensive structure ensures a balance between foundational learning, hands-on experience, and strategic insights, preparing participants for the challenges of global business leadership.

Global Management is a core subject in the international trade programme, designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complexities of managing businesses in a globalised and dynamic environment.

The subject focuses on strategic thinking, ethical leadership, and sustainable practices while fostering an understanding of international business practices, cultural diversity, and geopolitical factors. Through lectures, case studies, and group projects, students gain practical insights and develop problem-solving skills essential for leading international teams, negotiating across cultures, and contributing to the sustainability of global organisations. By the end, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the global business landscape to make informed decisions and lead effectively.

Financial Analysis and International Trade Finance are two core subjects within the Finance for Trade Business module. Financial Analysis and International Trade Finance are essential topics for any business manager, providing the tools to understand and apply financial data effectively.

In Financial Analysis, students build a foundation in business economics and finance, learning to interpret financial statements, assess profitability, and manage risks to support decision-making. Complementing this, International Trade and Supply Chain Finance explores financial instruments like credit, insurance, and payment methods that facilitate global trade, while addressing risks and emerging technologies like blockchain. Together, these topics prepare students to manage internal financial operations and navigate the complexities of global trade finance.

  • Global Supply Chain Management focuses on managing the flow of goods, information, and finances across borders. Key areas include logistics, sourcing, and trade regulations, with emphasis on INCOTERMS, international contracts, and risk management to address globalization challenges.
  • International Operations and Value Chain Strategy explores strategic operational processes like demand planning, inventory management, and continuous improvement models (Lean), while integrating technologies like Industry 4.0 and Logistics 5.0 to optimise supply chains in physical and digital environments.
  • Global Trade Policy and Legal Regulations provides a comprehensive understanding of global trade, including trade agreements, tariffs, and regulations. The Global Trade Policy and Legal Regulations examines the impact of tariffs, trade agreements, and global organisations like the WTO, alongside the role of technologies such as AI and blockchain, to analyse trade dynamics and develop strategic solutions.

This subject prepares students to manage risks, improve competitiveness, and thrive in the ever-changing global marketplace.

Leadership and Personal Development equips students with essential skills like negotiation, communication, leadership, critical thinking, and cross-cultural management to thrive in global business.

The course develops negotiation strategies, focusing on conflict resolution and adapting to cultural and business contexts. It emphasises leadership and communication, highlighting self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and ethical influence to inspire collaboration. Critical thinking enhances decision-making by fostering objective analysis and sound judgment in complex situations.

Lastly, cross-cultural negotiation prepares students to navigate diverse environments, applying cultural models to real-world scenarios and building strong international business relationships. This subject empowers future leaders to succeed in today’s interconnected world.

In this subject, you will learn to identify, create, and implement the necessary plans to generate value derived from the strategy defined in the Global Management module. You will start with the definition of international marketing and commercial plans, the forecast of demand, and the quantification of commercial objectives in a particular selected market, which will be supported in the decisions and plans about products, services, prices, customer experience, channels, communication, and actions to generate this demand.

The programme offers 2 optional subjects to accomplish the programme. You must select one of them:

  • An International Stay in Shanghai International Students University (SISU) at Shanghai, China: students will have the chance to experience a 1-month stay and cultural immersion at an AMBA-accredited Institution (SISU, Shanghai) for a programme focused on the business in the Asian market, meeting the areas below:
    • Entrepreneurship in Asian Markets
    • Consumer Behaviour and Applied Neuroscience
    • Fintech Accounting and Corporate Finance
    • Smart Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • Operational Management II: Students not selecting Option 1 remain in Madrid to take this subject and cover 4 additional topics on Operational Management, for a more comprehensive development of the operational part of international trade and to acquire deeper knowledge from Operational Management I.

ESIC's Professional Development Unit is made up of a team of professionals dedicated to promoting your professional career, whether you are studying in the classroom or as an Alumni. You can count on the UDP if you need to enter the world of work, as they have their own employment site, although they also collaborate with international sites, fairs and career events.

Our Master’s Degree in International Trade & Business in Madrid is taught at ESIC Business & Marketing School campus. Our campus in Madrid was inaugurated in 2021 and has 40 classrooms, an auditorium for 300 people, 16 work rooms, 5 meeting points, a gym, a mindfulness room, a cafeteria, and much more. Our classrooms are full of students from our master's and postgraduate programmes specialising in marketing, management, and technology. The campus is the place to network, work on your ideas, and learn. But, above all, it is the perfect place to live in the present and build the future.

Yes, there is a percentage of compulsory attendance in the face-to-face masters. However, you may have a small percentage of unjustified absences.
